98 year old dobri dobrev, a man who lost his hearing in the second world war, walks 10 kilometers from his village in his homemade clothes and leather shoes to the city of sofia, where he spends the day begging for money.

Though a well recognized fixture around several of the city’s chruches, known for his prostrations of thanks to all donors, it was only recently discovered that he has donated every penny he has collected — over 40,000 euros — towards the restoration of decaying bulgarian monasteries and churches and the utility bills of orphanages, living entirely off his monthly state pension of 80 euros and the kindness of others.

and now i’m crying.

If you think abortions ok, remember what Horton says.

Awkward. Dr. Seuss and his wife were really liberal and pro-choice. They’ve even threatened to sue pro-life organizations for using this quote the wrong way (the way you’re doing it actually). I guess you didn’t already know that Horton Hears a Who is about the American occupation of Japan post-WWII. He even dedicated it to his dear Japanese friend.
Mrs. Geisel (Mrs. Seuss) continued donating to Planned Parenthood and advocating for reproductive health and rights after her husband died.

Restored Faith in Humanity of the Day: Reddit Restores WWII Veteran’s Damaged Navy Photo
Back in April, at the request of his 87-year-old grandfather, Redditor stevieboy1984 turned to the /r/PicRequests subreddit to see if anyone could clean up a scanned JPEG image file of his grandfather’s World War II-era photo taken during his service in the Navy as a submarine sonar/radar operator. After a number of people offered their photoshop wizardries to help its restoration, stevieboy1984 showed his grandfather six variations before handing him a framed version of top commenter unhi’s submission. Here’s a video of the big reveal. Grab a box a tissues, manly tears are coming.

do you ever get into one of those situations where you’re like “I need to stop hating this particular person it’s not going to get me anywhere I’m just going to grow up and move on with my life” but then they do the tiniest thing to piss you off and then you’re like “nope fuck you right off I want to throw you off a bridge”

Philadelphia: High school students walk out of class and march to City Hall to protest severe budget cuts and planned school closings, May 9, 2013.

The budget cuts are absolutely horrific. Here are some of the proposed changes:

  • Schools with more than 1,000 students would no longer be required to have librarians or librarian assistants.
  • Schools would no longer be required to have counselors, and counselors’ caseloads would no longer be capped.
  • Teachers could be assigned to unlimited classes outside their subject area, and high school teachers could be assigned an extra class without pay.  There would be no limit on amount of consecutive time taught in a school day.
  • There would be no limit on class size
  • The district would no longer be required to provide copy machines, or “a sufficient number of instructional materials and textbooks.”
  • Counselors would no longer be guaranteed to have rooms with privacy and confidentiality, a telephone, a locked filing cabinet and a door.

There’s more here.

^ my first thought really was “is this the Onion?”

everyone does realize that this article could have easily been written without mentioning his nationality…right?…

I mean considering it’s a story about racial profiling by the FBI, that would have sort of defeated the purpose.

usually i remove the comments, but these pretty much hit the stop. not counting the idiot that thinks race is irrelevant in this story

i don’t believe that race is irrelevant in this story, i believe that race should be irrelevant in general. (and it’s important to remember: the boston bombers weren’t even arabs…)

Yo this is literally a story of racism whether you want it to be or not.
You can’t pretend that race isn’t a factor in RACISM
